“He Leads Me Beside Still Waters”

Ps.23:2(b)

  1. Water is Essential
    1. Both sheep and humans require it
    2. Polluted water makes sheep sick physically, polluted “water” makes us sick spiritually
    3. Spiritual “thirst”
      1. Mt. 5:6, “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled (satisfied)
      2. Jn. 7:37, “If anyone is thirsty let him come to me and drink.”
        1. To “drink” in spiritual terminology means
          1. “take in”
          2. “accept”
  2. Water for Sheep
    1. Generally three sources
      1. Dew on the grass
      2. Wells
      3. Streams
    2. Sheep feed early and are content
    3. Christians, as sheep under the good shepherds care, feed early we too can be content
    4. Quiet Time
  3. Good Intentions
    1. We intend to drink from God’s word
      1. Something always prevents us from “fitting” it in
      2. We’re thirsty, yet pursue other things
    2. Jeremiah 2:13, “for my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me, the fountain of living waters, and hewed out cisterns for themselves, broken cisterns that can hold no water”

Conclusion

  1.  There is always people who will refuse to let God lead them.
  2. Drinking from polluted waters
  3. “God’s over here, but I’m sure what I have planned is better.”
