By Gilbert Alexander

Not all of God’s requirements of men are stated with the word “must”; but when God has issued a “must”, men have no right to change it to an optional thing.  Consider these ‘musts’ and the attitude of men toward them:

1. “He that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.” (Heb. 11:6).

2. “And He began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders, and the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.” (Mk. 8:31).

3. John the Baptist said of Christ:  “He must increase, but I must decrease.” (Jn. 3:30).

4. “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).

5. “For where a testament is, there must of necessity be the death of him that made it.” (Heb. 9:16).

6. “Ye must be born again.” (Jn. 3:7).  Newness of life accompanies the new birth.  (Jn. 3:3-5; Rom. 6:3,4).

7.  “Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.”  (Acts 9:6).  “And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.” (Acts 22:16).

8. “God is a Spirit; and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” (Jn. 4:24).

9. Elders and deacons must be qualified.  (1 Tim. 3:2-7; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Tim. 3:8-13).

10. Christians must needs be subject “to the higher powers, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake” (Rom. 13:5).

11. Christ  “must  reign, till He hath put all His enemies under His feet.” (1 Cor. 15:25,26).

12. “For we must all be made manifest before the judgment seat of Christ; that  each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” (2 Cor. 5:10).
